Contest Rules and Regulations

Our theme is "Keeping the Blues Alive". We are looking for creative stories about the blues, whether it may be in a musician, a town or a way of life. Let's keep the blues alive in the written word. Be Creative! We encourage you to use the Clarksdale Carnigie Library in downtown Clarksdale for information and resources. Please mail or bring submissions to the Cutrer Cultural Center at109 Center Street, Clarksdale, MS. or call 1 800 381 2306 for pick up. Submissions can also be uploaded on this blog. However, if you want to be in our exhibit or are one of our winners, we must have paper as outline below.

Rules: Submissions may be an essay, personal narrative, song lyric or poem. Essay or personal narratives must be:
Grades 4-6 from 200-350 words
Grade 7-9 from 350-500 words
Grades 10-12 from 500-750 words
College students from 750-1200 words

Song lyrics must be a minimum of three versus and a chorus. Poems must be from 12 lines to one page. Submissions must be typed, double- spaced using Times New Roman 12 point font. Cover sheet must be completed in full and no name should appear on the submission paper. All work must be that of the student.

Submissions become the property of the Juke Joint Festival Contest Committee. Decisions of the judge are final. Late entries will be considered.

Juke Joint Writing Contest

This year the Juke Joint Writng Contest in Clarksdale, Mississippi will be sponsored by the Delta Writers Association and co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
